He'll still be able to understand it, whether it's hearing or reading it, but he just won't be able to speak it. Sort of like he can't recall the right words, as if it's a foreign language to him and he doesn't have the vocab, and properly get them out. He may have an easier time writing, though, to not completely lock him out of communicating.
