A correction, though: according to various sources (Biohazard Kaitaishinsho and Forest Speyer's profiles in a variety of books), she was enrolled in the army beyond special training (which they don't do unless you're enrolled, obviously); she befriended Forest during that time, prior to joining STARS Alpha Team.
Although non-canonical, I do take her portrayal in Project X Zone and Project X Zone 2 into consideration for her personality (it is essentially a canon what-if with multiversal deviation that would take place in 2005 for her and Chris); I do not assume that the events during it have occurred, however. I also take into consideration noncanonical/alternate retellings of the first game in the rail shooter, Umbrella Chronicles, where Barry has no presence and she fights through the Arklay mansion the entire way alongside Chris. A number of events (told in separate vignettes) occurring in the game are now considered canonical, such as the 2003 Caucasus Mountain Incident which occurs during Umbrella's End.
