The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.
Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.
The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.
→ VELVET ROOM ATTENDANTS
The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.
The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

[ And he's the one who's been encouraging people to kill the Shadows and the Daitengu in the first place. It's just complicated because that was when he didn't remember anything of when he was in Rio's own shoes, of the Daitengu or anything. ]
If you get near a Shadow, their urge is to kill you too. Fighting back is normal, knowing they're a threat. It's not something you should beat yourself up over...
no subject
It's not exactly that. I know that sometimes I have to fight to live. That's been most of my life.
[The adults who created them felt it was their responsibility to kill the children they had wrought.]
But it's a thin tightrope to walk. Killing only when it's necessary to live... But without overindulging it either, or else I'll just lose myself, and then my fears will become true.
[Her fear that she should have been killed while she was still herself than allowing her to become a devil.]

[ Having to be mindful of every little thing sounds exhausting. But Rio is always mindful of every little thing— she's had to be, with everything she's been through, he thinks. ]
Sometimes you slip, but other people can get you back on that tightrope. Remind you when you need it, and that sort of stuff. Like how Souji's always been there for me, getting me to stop when I go overboard.
no subject
Sort of... I guess...
There's some things that will never change because of the curse. And I don't have others with me here who understand it all.
[She has no one but herself to keep her in line.]

[ He shrugs. Sometimes people cheering you on lets you perform Nyx sealing miracles. ]

[And the degree to which she misses Ryoko and - yes, even Kousuke's dumb face - seems to grow by the day.]
--But there isn't much you can do to help with that. [She's just whining.]
no subject
[ She came here worried that her main use here is her capability of violence and Minato's kind of sure now that his words had the opposite effect of calming those worries. ]
no subject
Does it actually bother you to fail?
no subject
[ Failing is the default. If he can get through to someone, it's a pleasant surprise. ]

Minato.]
It's not very encouraging to know that one of our supposed guides has pretty much given up.
no subject
I haven't given up... completely. If I did, I wouldn't even wake up for you.

[ out of the gazillion years he's been alive ]
I don't get people as well as Souji does, so it's hard. But I guess... if somebody's given up, and they come to me... I have to try harder. You haven't given up yet. I have a lot more confidence in you than I have in myself, so you'll be fine. Probably.
no subject
Maybe you two should be learning alongside us instead of just trying to guide us.
no subject
[ Instead, it's Minato's job, and all he does is lie around the lounge all day. ]
Besides... all this is stuff you should be talking to your friends about, right? It would mean more, from somebody you care about.
no subject
No. I don't think any of us want to talk about it. It's something we all know we're facing, and we're probably too scared to bring it up.
But we know each other well enough that we don't have to.
[That kind of understanding is important, too.]
You're right that I don't have them here with me, though. So it's up to you to talk to me instead. Please improve yourself so you can do better next time.
no subject
[ Besides learning how to be more empathetic and encouraging and an overall better Attendant and person. Those things don't matter. He wants at least a piece of candy for his efforts. ]
no subject
Do you like any animals other than cats?
no subject
[ He likes demons... but he's trying really hard to keep it to animals. ]
no subject
Then if you can tell me five of your successes with other guests, I'll make you a handmade dog stuffed animal. Would that work?
no subject
[ Not that he has many, if any, previous successes to capitalize on. ]
no subject
Oh, and you don't get to pick how it looks unless you get ten successes. Then you can come with me and pick out the fabric.
The more you work to improve yourself, the more you get to improve the look of the stuffed animal. It can be a reflection of your efforts.
no subject
[ But yeah, he'll do it... He wants a little Koromaru doll haha he already knows exactly what he wants it to look like, so he has to get ten somehow. ]
no subject
[Ganba, Minato!]
It's a fitting reward though, isn't it? You can cash in whenever you want, but that just means you're accepting the easier path of failure instead of trying to continue to improve yourself to the best you - and your stuffed animal - can be.
no subject
Yeah, yeah. I'll do twenty if you also sew a little costume for him to wear. With little angel wings.
