The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

I dunno. It's sorta like looking at your past self and going cringing 'cause you used to be like that, and no wonder you didn't want to remember.

[ Nobody likes themselves when they were young and stupid and Minato was very young and very stupid. That's what it feels like. ]

I was sure of myself before. Now I'm remembering these things, and I can't imagine the person I am now doing all of them. I guess because I'm not a complete person if I'm missing so much. It makes my entire existence feel fake.

[ That's how post-update Terry feels about pre-update Terry sometimes... he can't even explain what happened in his thinking. ]

You, of all people, should know that you're not fake at all. I'm not fake and neither are you, no matter what. You said it yourself, didn't you? You had a moment where you even said that you felt like you didn't exist when you were talking about the stuff I showed you from the mansion. You're real, Minato.

I had a day where I forgot all of my memories. Life was weird. I had to be led around by Orien. But then the next day, when I remembered everything at once... it sucked. I hope it doesn't happen to you like that.

Who knows... maybe it's better for you since you're recovering memories one at a time--or at least, I hope it will.

[ Minato looks at Terry in surprise for a moment, before his expression softens into a small smile. ]

...dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum... Yeah, we're both real. Whether we want to or not, we exist.

[ Even if he really doesn't want to. Learning things one by one is at least something that feels natural— it's like flipping through an old photo album and realizing all these things that he'd forgotten. All his memories and experiences build him into the person he is today, regardless of whether he remembers. Most people don't remember everything about their lives. They live in the moment, and they're still them. He shouldn't forget that. ]

...I hope I didn't do anything too terrible in the past. I hope people will be able to forgive me if I did.

[ Half of Terry wonders if anyone apart from Souji from Minato's past are still around somehow for them to forgive Minato. He kinda doubts it, but he smiles back at him and ruffles his hair. ]

Souji forgave you, didn't he? Must be nice to have such an understanding guy...

[ Ugh, hair ruffles. It's no different from the usual bedhead— although he's sleeping a lot less these days compared to the months before- so he lets Terry do what he wants. Talking about Souji always makes him feel warm inside, and his smile warms to match. ]

Yeah. I give him a lot of crap sometimes, but he's always patient with me. He understands people well 'cause he's patient, and takes the time to get to know them. Gives them space when they need it, but is always there for them so they never feel alone. I love him a lot.

[ He looks up at Terry for a moment before dropping his gaze again. ]

Awkward as hell, though, and he bumbles his way through things just like you do. He understands people 'cause he takes the time and makes the effort. I know you worry about that stuff too. But if you take the time and make the effort, you'll be fine, just like him.

... I used to think I did, taking the time and making effort, but now I'm not sure anymore. Having the things I say get ignored, like my opinion doesn't matter, got really tiring. Maybe people don't understand what I want to convey, so I need to put in effort on making them understand.

[ There's a small self depreciating smile as he looks off to the side. ]

... but that doesn't seem to work either. I don't really think I'm fit for the arcana they gave me anymore either, but well... that's that. I'm just here to be used because I have power, I guess. If I didn't, I wouldn't have anything left of worth.

You can't understand somebody who doesn't want to be understood. [ Exhibit A: Kano ] That's where patience comes in... I'm not great at it either. If somebody tells me to shut up and go away, I wouldn't ever talk to them again. Souji can help you with that sort of thing more than I can.

[ That goes without saying. Souji is the one with true friends. Minato had teammates and girlfriends, people who liked him because he was always available, or because he enabled them and they took that as support. ]

Your Arcana isn't something given to you, though. It's just who you are. Who you are changes, and so can your Arcana. Strength isn't about physical strength, anyways...

[ And this seems like a conversation he's had with Terry before. He had this conversation with Rio. He had this conversation with himself, always saying that all he can do is bring mass destruction to the world and outside of that, what good is he?

He was wrong, and so are they. ]

Yeah, it's supposed to be inner strength or something. I feel like I've been really weak about that lately, but maybe it's because I'm old and tired from everything...

[ ... ]

Jace once told me that people are like puzzles, but I don't think I'll be able to solve any of them. Maybe it's not my place to, even if I want to. I just... want to get along with everyone. I didn't think it would be so hard.

Living for that long takes a hell of a lot of inner strength in the first place...

[ Imagine being 40k. Minato can't, even if he's maybe existed for as long or more, he's had no reference of seasons or years or world events or anything. Maybe all those gazillion years were all in his head in the first place, like how time feels fake in dreams. ]

People are kinda like puzzles... I can see why he said that. But for me, I don't care about solving puzzles. I like playing. So with people... rather than figuring them out, I like it best when they talk and I get to learn about them. People like sharing things they like. You do something like that, don't you?

... Yeah, I do. I thought that I could gather pieces by talking to them and learning about them. I guess you don't need to know much about the person to be friends with them anyway.

[ Terry leans in and hugs Minato. ]

Thanks... for listening to me.

[ Minato doesn't return the hug, but he does smile a little and doesn't protest it. ]

Yeah, no problem. I'm good at listening... better than talking, anyways. I think as long as you enjoy being with people, that's all you need. Don't have to rush things or anything.

[ For Terry who always wants to do something with his idea of helping people, he always wants to interfere. But he takes that into consideration and lets go. ]

Mm... you'll always be my friend, Minato. No matter what.

[ No matter what... those sorts of promises are dangerous, but it's still nice to hear. Max social link bond and everything, even if Minato doesn't have to micromanage that sort of thing anymore. ]

Same. No matter what, we're friends. Hope you won't regret it someday.

[ He made the same promise to Mondo and visits the Hoshino's every now and then to check up on him in person... :') ]

I have a lot of regrets, but this won't be one of them. I'll go buy some chocolate malasadas, so I'll be back later!

[ Terry waves as he leaves the Velvet Room. We can handwave when he brings them in so they can eat together and chill. ]
