The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

🢒🢒 minato The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

🢒🢒 souji The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

Oh. Like... a morpho butterfly? Or did you see one here in person?

[ He digs into his pockets to try and see if he has a clip in there, rooting around some empty wrappers and a set of keys and-- ah. Here we go. He hands over a clip: they do light nuclear damage. ]

I saw one here in person. It visited me in the middle of the night, but it's way too cold for any normal butterflies to be around anymore.

[Yoinking that clip though, thank.]

That's because it's not a normal butterfly. I dunno how much you believe in this stuff, but blue butterflies represent a person's soul... I used to get visits from them from before I was an Attendant, and again during my time here. Souji too.

[ He lets his hands slide back into his pockets once they're empty, turning a little in his chair. He looks somewhat fond. ]

My senpai, Tatsuya and Naoya, said the butterfly is Philemon's guise, and that it meant he's watching over us. He's the one who awakened their Personas. I never met the guy himself.

A person's soul...?

[Huh.]

Philemon... But I thought the Kotengu was the one responsible for it?

[compendiem]

[ Minato shrugs, because he can't say one way or another. ]

Those two were granted the power from Philemon. For me, it was forced... I had the Shadow called Death shoved into my soul for over ten years, and that sorta did it. For Souji... I don't think he's told me. But he had the power before coming here too.

[ It's the same case with Akira who's awakened to the power long before. Whether it's Philemon or the Kotengu, it's not just one person who's responsible for it. ]

[toybombs]

You had Death in your soul?

[EXCUSE??]

Yep. He was the first friend I ever made.

[ ...it's immediately very difficult to explain ]

Uh. I was like... sixteen... and he showed up in my bedroom in the middle of the night. Woke me up and asked if I wanted to be friends. I wanted to sleep, so I said okay, so he'd leave me alone. So we became friends.

[toybombs]

How did he end up in your soul?!

[compendiem]

An android shoved it in me.

[ He can't explain the whys and hows, Rio!! But this is what happened, to the best of his recollection. ]

[toybombs]

What?!

[compendiem]

[ Yeah. Minato waits quietly for Rio to get over her shock, but from his lack of response, it's soon clear that that's exactly what happened and isn't a joke or hyperbole or anything. ]

Why did an android shove something like that into you?

[compendiem]

Dunno. Or- maybe I haven't remembered yet. I can't really tell.

[ He hasn't completely recalled everything about P3— or 1633 or his Hirajiro lives, for that matter- so he really can't say anything more about it. ]

Does any of it matter, though? In the end, there are different ways to awaken to your Persona. That's it.

[toybombs]

I just want to understand... well, any of this, if I can.

[But it's looking like that's less and less likely...]

[ Talking about Aigis and Death and everything is just going down the rabbit hole, so Minato shakes his head. ]

If there's anything I think is helpful, I'd tell one of you guys. [ aka there's a chance he'll visit you at 3 in the morning if you submit bonuses for a plot clue ] But I can't tell you anything I don't remember.

[ And he's been trying. Wading through the shrine dungeon on his own during Lockdown to get his own memories back, working with Personas during the day on top of creating items for people and other Attendant things.

He just wants to sleep... He wants to go back to being August Minato. ]

Well... anyway, is there anything else you can tell me about Philemon that the others might have mentioned?

[compendiem]

No, that's all I know about him. We didn't talk about him very much back then anyways, 'cause there was no point. Beyond telling each other how we each got our Personas, I mean.

[ After that, there was no point, no need to know every single detail of each others' lives because they were all pretty private people and Minato's included in that. He's never talked to anybody else about Aigis or Death or anything to a great extent, and he never pestered anybody about their life stories when he was just a Guest and not an Attendant with the futile hope of people opening up a little, because maybe his team failed because they all kept to themselves, each a protag of their own lives and strove to win with the strength of their core group carrying the baggage of everybody else who had been there. ]

[Well, damn. She looks kind of disappointed, but sometimes clues lead eventually to dead ends.]
