The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

🢒🢒 minato The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

🢒🢒 souji The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

[ it hurts, seeing terry like this, seeing these bodies who used to be people with feelings and thoughts but are just empty cases. souji doesn't have any words of comfort and when minato suggests bringing everyone along, he shoots him a glance. well, in a morbid way, the hospital would know what to do with bodies... ]

... I'll carry them.

[ souji looks at minato again. "you don't have to come" is what he silently says. ]

But you have to follow me to the hospital, all right?

[overstrain]

[ Terry knows the procedure when a hospital has a dead body, and it involves them taking the corpse down to the morgue, and sometimes a funeral home worker is called to take a body away. He hasn't seen anything like that in Hirajiro so far, and he hasn't gotten over the fact that one of his best friends and his two precious people that were once in his family are now dead. It doesn't look like he's dealing with this very well, because he doesn't move from his spot, looking very wary. ]

[ Minato misses both Souji's look and Terry's expression, for staring at the spot of blood long enough that everything else in his vision blurs away instead of blood, darkness, the smell of gunpowder and burnt flesh that seems to fill the room the moment he's aware of it. He doesn't want to go to with them, to see what happens to the bodies and with Terry, but he also absolutely does not want to be left alone in the Velvet Room.

...When his feet move, his first step is towards Rei, and he crouches to pick her up. He's not going to let Souji have to carry three people all by himself, but Rei is probably the only one Minato is strong enough to lift. ]

I'll help. It's—

[ But he bites back what he was going to say, chewing at his bottom lip and trying to focus on the weight in his arms instead of the one at the back of his head. ]

Terrence. Can you walk?

[ something in souji's heart feels extremely heavy, the more that he looks at terrence, but he swallows it down. he'll focus on it later, when he's alone and able to lower whatever walls that he puts up when he's around others. it's not about him right now, it's about terrence. he goes over and picks up mondo first, placing him on his back before he tries to pick up kido in his arms. it's heavy, carrying two people at once, but he'll manage. he can't find it within him to ask terry to carry anyone again. ]

[ he glances at terry. can he walk? ]

[overstrain]

[ Now that the three bodies and lifted, Terry stops crying and suddenly, he's reminded of what Kido said before. ]

... Is there really a meaning for us to do all this instead of you guys, who can do so much more with various Personas?

[ It almost, almost sounds accusatory. ]

[compendiem]

...There's no point if you don't go?

[ The accusation goes over Minato's head, whose mind is somewhere else and he has to reel it in, focusing on Terry's words for what they are and the situation they're currently in: bringing Terry to the hospital, not the dungeons and everything about Personas and this world they're all trapped in. Of course he and Souji can carry the other three with the help of Personas, but the entire reason it was "us" instead of "you guys" is to get Terry to the hospital.

Souji is better at social cues. He can handle this. ]

[ souji catches onto what terry means and he glances at minato again, face blank, then back at terry. he stands there, just holding mondo on his back and kido in his arms. ]

... it isn't our journey.

[ he knows that's a weak answer but it is what it is. ]

[overstrain]

What's the point of a journey if it gets stopped short like this?!

[ The answer may be true, despite how weak it is, but it doesn't help what he thinks at all, so he ends up shouting in anger. ]

[compendiem]

[ Minato's previous answer isn't entirely out of place of what Terry and Souji are talking about, but the way his brows knit together slightly gives away that he's not entirely following— it doesn't matter, though, because Terry asks a general question that doesn't require context, and Minato peels his eyes off the ground to look at Terry. ]

The point of a journey is what happens during the journey, not the length of it. A life doesn't mean any less, the shorter it is.

[ souji can understand terry's anger and frustration. he really does but minato's answer is true. it's about what happen. ]

You're still here. Your journey will still continue.

[ even if it stood for the others. ]

[overstrain]

[ A life doesn't mean any less when it's cut short.

Terrence Nowell will remember that.

His anger subsides, replaced by sorrow. He looks over at the two, his shoulders lowered and looks at the ground as he makes a request: ]

... Can I have five minutes with them before we go? Alone?

[compendiem]

[ It's what Terry wants, so Minato sets Rei down beside him, though it's after Minato straightens up that he glances over at Souji, somewhat uneasy, and then trains his gaze back to the ground.

He'll just have to trust Terry not to do anything drastic in his five minutes alone, however scared Minato is of anything else happening. ]

Take your time... I'll be in the cap if you need me.

[ With the lounge being too open, the only other semi-enclosed space Minato feels comfortable in is that conductor's cab, where all he can see before him is darkness. ]

[ souji shares that uneasy glance with minato but complies. he's not heartless enough to decline that offer so he gently sets mondo and kido back down on the couch. ]

Call us when you're ready.

[ he'll go to the cab with minato. he wants to take minato's hand, walk the short distance that it takes from the lounge to the front of the train, but he refrains, especially in front of terry. they'll wait and hope that terry doesn't do anything rash. ]

[ Terry finally stands and looks down at Mondo, Rei, and Kido. He doesn't want the Attendants leave, with his eyes fixed on the three before him. The two had every right to be uneasy, since it honestly takes all of his willpower to not just gather the three bodies and leave the Velvet Room and put them in his house. He quietly breathes out. There's no chance. No hope. Nothing. As expected, the dead will stay dead. Not even Attendants with their all-powerful Personas can do little against the fact.

He looks at them again, eyes focusing on the reality before him. Regret seeps in. He shouldn't have yelled at them. There was nothing that they could do.

The more he stares at the three, the more he feels like he can hear their voices--Mondo's reaction to being teased about Emily, but having enough pride to stand strong no matter what, even at death's doorstep. He remembers how he always promised to be his friend, no matter what he did. Rei's cute mannerisms that made Terry want to rethink on how to live his life, for other people. He could probably learn a thing or two from her strength now. Terry still remembers when he promised to protect her and not get into a fight with Zen if he was here to take her away. The matching watches they wore still tick away. Time waits for no one, not even the dead. Terry looks over at Kido, his hand reaching for her soot-covered face and brushes the bangs away, though there's no point to doing that now. Those eyes will remain closed forever--those eyes that reflected so much of her raw emotions that enabled her persistence despite the odds, despite nearly dying on her several times, despite how she wanted to be strong for everyone, those eyes are lifeless now. They will never, ever open again.

He feels his own guilt strangling him as the form of disembodied hands. It's hard to breathe as his tears flow freely again, but he wipes them away with his arm again, bandaged with no purpose, now that his wounds are gone. When he breathes out, it comes out as near shuddering and his voice quiet, but he tries to keep a smile on his face. Maybe that's what they would have wanted. ]

I loved you guys. I really did... Thanks, for giving me a lot of precious moments together. Thanks for being my friends. Thanks... for sharing your memories with me.

[ The moment he lets those words into the air, his tears flow even more and he quietly wails alone with his face covered by his hands. He looks down at Kido one last time, managing to stop his tears for a second to say: ]

Thanks, for liking me back. I loved you so... much...

[ ... ]

[overstrain]

[ Five minutes have well passed, extending to probably around fifteen. Though if the Attendants did try to sneak a peek to make sure Terry didn't run away or anything, he still would have been there, trying to cope with his loss. Terry manages to clean his face in the small bathroom in the Velvet Room, though it doesn't hide his red eyes from crying so much the entire night. He knocks on the cab door. ]

... I'm done. I'm ready to go now.

[compendiem]

[ Minato doesn't listen in, and he doesn't go up to check on Terry either, sitting in the conductor's seat with his head down and with headphones clamped over his ears that don't do anything to block the static at the back of his mind. He passes the time like this, until he hears the knock cut through his thoughts and he startles, sitting up.

...

And he tilts a head for Souji to get the door; Minato will follow. ]

[tarotcards]

[ souji just leans against a wall in a corner, just staring through the windows. he has his own thoughts and feelings, so fifteen minutes pass rather quickly. when he hears the knock, he'll push himself up and opens the door. he'll nod at terry. ]

If you need to stop, let us know.

[ he'll head back to the hallway, going to pick up mondo and kido once more. he'll open up a door to the entrance of the hospital so they can just walk right in. ]

[overstrain]

[ He would normally be glad that they don't have to pass those wretched waters again, but the thought doesn't even cross his mind. He quietly nods to Souji and when he sees Minato follow suit, he follows them to the hospital. ]

... Sorry, for yelling at you two earlier.

[compendiem]

If you're angry, you can yell all you want.

[ Minato doesn't care about that, gracelessly ignoring Terry's apology as he picks Rei up too and holds her close as he steps out of the portal, keeping in both their shadows instead of leading from the front. ]

[tarotcards]

[ souji leads, occasionally glancing back to ensure that terry and minato are following. ]

You don't need to apologize. Express yourself however way you want.

[ that seems to be a problem that most people seem to be having, holding back their feelings. ]

[overstrain]

[ With that, Terry doesn't say anything more. The Lockdown is now lifted so there are employees in the building. Terry goes up to the receptionist desk and tells them to look after three bodies, but what surprises him after is that the workers all come with stretchers, telling Souji and Minato to put down a body on each, and when they do, they carry them away. Terry watches them go, disappearing into the far hall, and wonders if they just want to confirm that they're dead. Well, they did weird things before, like admitting Terry to be hospitalized back when he didn't have a heart, so this shouldn't be surprising. ]

... I'll go home now.

[ He says, completely forgetting about the reason why they're all there in the first place. ]

[compendiem]

[ Everything feels strangely light and heavy at the same time once Rei's taken out of Minato's arms, and he slides his hands in his pockets to rub at the fabric on the inside of his pants. If Terry wants to go home, Minato's inclination is to let him, even though he hasn't forgotten the reason Terry's here.

Again is the urge to say something he's sure will only come across as insensitive, so Minato holds his tongue, stepping aside for Terry but at the same time, looking to Souji for what he thinks they should do. ]

[ souji lowers mondo and kido onto their own separate stretchers and watches them get wheeled away to... wherever they're going. as he stares down that hospital hallway, something twists itself into his heart and he pushes himself to look away, back at terry. ]

You should get yourself checked out before you leave.

[ of course, he's not going to stop terry if he really just wants to go, but souji thinks it's better to err on the side of caution. personas can't heal everything, after all. ]

[overstrain]

... Alright.

[ Terry doesn't think there's anything wrong with his physical state after Minato casted Salvation on him, but if it'll put their minds at ease, he'll go. He looks back at the end of the hallway where the bodies were whisked away before turning back to the front desk receptionist saying that he'll be here for a check-up too. These Hirajiro doctors are making so much money working past midnight... ganba. ]

You two don't need to wait for me, so you can go back.

[ So that they can go back to the Velvet Room and mull over their newly regained memories while Terry goes home after his checkup and probably cry some more in his bed while the cats try to comfort him. ]

[ Terry going home to ten cats and probably two dozen crows still hanging out outside the house ): at least he won't be alone

Minato's not really sure they should leave Terry alone like this either, but if he were in Terry's shoes, he would hate being coddled and he would want his space and his time to process things at his own rate. He's not really sure, but...

He glances over at Souji, then his gaze passes over Terry as he stares down the hall where the three bodies were taken away. ]

I'm... gonna go say bye to Rei. So... I'll be around.

[ There if Terry needs somebody, but otherwise not there if he doesn't. ]
