The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

🢒🢒 minato The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

🢒🢒 souji The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

So you don't ever change name plates or anything? They're just there forever?

[ It's kinda like browsing through social media accounts of people who died... They're there, but not... there. That's how Terry thinks of it anyway. ]

[compendiem]

Well... Before, it was just me and Souji and all the name plates were blank. Then they fill up as you guys get here. No reason to throw them out, right? It's not like you guys are dead forever.

[ Don't metaphorically kill off his Guests?? Terry??? ]

[overstrain]

[ ... ... ...

For a second, Terry isn't sure he heard that right. ]

We're not... dead forever?

[compendiem]

Yeah.

[ It's true....... whether Terry is questioning the "dead" part or the "forever." ]

[overstrain]

W-Wait. What do you mean by that?! That people here are immortal somehow, or people get brought back to life?!

[ He feels like he experienced both sides of this to be honest. ]

[compendiem]

Uh... No. Don't worry about it.

[ It sounds like a long conversation and Minato doesn't really want to have it. He refuses to. It would put too many bad ideas into people's heads, thinking that they're immortal or would otherwise be brought back even if they died. That's not how it works, and Minato moves past Terry to head back to the portal by the school, penguin shuffling on his skis because his feet are still bound to it... ]

[overstrain]

[ Terry immediately gets up because this is useful info!! What the fuck!! Minato!! ]

You can't just say that and then leave!!

[ Penguin shuffling doesn't get you very far with a roadrunner... Terry immediately latches onto Minato's back like a koala, like that one time when they were at his house. ]

[compendiem]

Yeah I can.

[ Look at him leaving, or attempting to, anyways. It's not information he wants to share, and Terry won't be able to pinpoint it from him if he tried. He does stop shuffling once it gets to be too much of an effort, but he looks back at Terry, voice quiet. ]

Why does it matter? It doesn't involve you.

[overstrain]

It doesn't always have to involve me if it's something important like that! Isn't stuff like this supposed to help the Guests?! Or is it hiding some sort of deep dark secret like how our subconscious are all bundled up in whatever form they take that we force out to fight monsters for us?! Something that you're 100% sure that we'd be better off being ignorant about?

[ Terry does stop latching onto Minato's back at this point though, and just holds his wrist instead. It's never enough to hurt. ]

[compendiem]

[ He doesn't say anything, head dipping and gaze drifting to the ground like he's a petulant child being scolded. He doesn't want to say anything. He really really doesn't, and is convinced they're better off not knowing. ]

...Sorry.

[ But he's not apologizing for not telling Terry. He's apologizing because he won't. ]

Ask Souji if you want. But I can't... I can't do that to you guys.

[overstrain]

... If it's about death and stuff, I told Souji that the three were alive in the hospital. Remember? He was the one that checked if they were certainly dead when I brought them to the Velvet Room that night. When I told him that, he looked just as surprised as anyone should be--especially because he confirmed their deaths himself.

[ He pauses for a second. ]

... Doesn't that mean you're the only one who knows about this?

[compendiem]

[ He'd always thought he and Souji shared the same amount of knowledge, but they've never really talked about what they knew— there was no point— and maybe Minato is more attuned to certain things and Souji to others. Maybe Minato's is death. Maybe Terry already knows the gist of what's going on, at least in terms of immortality, with the way Minato refuses to answer...

He opens his mouth to answer, but then closes it again.

He really doesn't want to do this wearing skis and the two of them looking like drowned rats. He'd much rather be in the Velvet Room with a couch cushion to bury his face in. ]

...They were dead. [ And then they weren't. If he's the only one that knows, that's even better, because then Souji won't be able to tell either. ]

But I'm not going to say anything more. I'm sorry. If you really want to know... if you can accept Vassago, come ask me again.

[ It's the same cheap tactic he pulled last time, but accepting Vassago is an impossibility for Terry. And so is Minato talking about this. ]

[overstrain]

[ Terry gives Minato an even look after being told that. He doesn't say anything in return, but he lowers himself and easily cuts through the bindings that trap Minato's feet to the logs. Minato is a free man now, relatively speaking. He even let go of his wrist. ]

... I'll hold you to that then.

[ There is malice or ill intent behind those words. It sounds more neutral than it should have been. It doesn't necessarily mean that Terry is suddenly willing to accept Vassago, because as predicted, it's an impossibility for now. He says that anyway, but maybe as Minato once said, "nothing is impossible".

Go hide behind your cushions, Minato. Terry won't stop you this time. ]

[compendiem]

I don't go back on my word. ...I hope you can prove to me someday that it'll be okay to tell you.

[ Because right now, he doesn't, not with Terry being who he is and not even if he accepts Vassago. But he's a free man, so he takes his leave, disappointed that the day ended on a sour note, but he sticks to his decision.

He's an Attendant. He has to do what's best for his guests. ]
