The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

🢒🢒 minato The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

🢒🢒 souji The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

[overstrain]

[ Terry came into the Velvet Room in hopes to ask either Attendant about something he saw, but he finds out that the place is dead silent, which is eerie, since he always expected some kind of tune to play in his head by now. It's unsettling. ]

Guys...?

[ He's expecting a jump scare to happen any moment, but after about two minutes of finding Minato and finding out that something is hideously wrong, he rushes to find Souji, opening every single door there is in the Velvet Room, starting from the kitchen, then the unused rooms, to the rooms that belonged to somebody out there. ]

Souji! Where are you?! Are you sick too?!

[tarotcards]

[ starting with the kitchen and the unused rooms are a good idea since those two areas are typically where souji is, but he's nowhere to be found. in fact, it seems like he's not anywhere, but when terry throws open the bathroom door... well, lo and behold, there is the missing attendant, down in his briefs with a towel around his neck and a shirt in his hands. he just stares right at terry. ]

Terrence.

[ ... ]

... may I help you?

[overstrain]

[ He's internally screaming again and immediately shuts the bathroom door. ]

I'm sorry!! Do your thing first! I... I'll wait!!

[ Someone just kill him. ]

[tarotcards]

[ wow, be careful with that door. if it breaks, souji has to fix it. ]

If you come help me, you don't have to wait as long.

[overstrain]

I'm not helping you dress yourself!!

[ He's so close to wailing. Kido... help him... ]

[tarotcards]

[ kido can't help you next month if she becomes a zombie. ]

Why not? Shouldn't friends help each other?

[overstrain]

[ Terry was so close to yelling "HAVE MINATO HELP YOU SINCE YOU TWO ARE MARRIED", but the entire reason he's like this in the first place is because he saw Minato not waking up no matter what he did. Ugh. ]

You're not an invalid, Souji...

[ He's not your butler! ]

[tarotcards]

No, but I'd like to be spoiled now and then.

[ you can hear the fake sad frown that he's making through the other side of the door. ]

[overstrain]

[ Yeah, okay. You know what. Fine. Souji's husband is unresponsive with a fear. He might as well do this to cheer him up a little. This is all assuming that he's had a look at Minato beforehand though. ]

Fine, I'm coming in...

[ He opens the door gently this time. ]

[tarotcards]

[ luckily for terry, souji actually already got himself halfway dressed. he put on his collared shirt and pants, though he hasn't buttoned the shirt yet. ]

You gave in easier than I thought.

[overstrain]

Don't say that... it makes it sound weird and awkward.

[ He doesn't say anything more and tries to shut off his brain to mindlessly button Souji's shirt. He even buttons it up all the way even though he'd hate on himself, and folds the collar neatly. No popped collars for you, young man. ]

[tarotcards]

[ souji keeps his chin up as terry buttons up his shirt, but then he looks down when terry does the unthinkable. ]

Oh, don't fold the collars. Leave them up.

[ give him his popped collars. ]

[overstrain]

It's too late.

[ Though he won't stop Souji from doing that on his own, but that requires effort on his end. ]

You'll have to do something about that yourself.

[tarotcards]

[ :( ]

But it's not spoiling if I do it by myself.

[overstrain]

[ ... ... ...

SOUJI, YOU ARE A CHILD!! Terry stares at him dead in the eyes and then pops his collars with a single fluid motion. There. He's just gonna walk out of the bathroom now. ]

[tarotcards]

[ :) thanks, terry. souji will handle the rest from here by getting dressed into his velvet room outfit, though he chooses not to put on the hat so he can let his hair dry properly. he'll step out of the washroom in a few minutes after he ensures that he looks perfectly fine. ]

So, did you need anything, Terrence?

[overstrain]

Yeah, um...

[ He's so much calmer than he was before and bringing it up doesn't send him to a frenzy. Whew. ]

I came here to ask a question. I couldn't find you, so I went to find Minato. But he has a fever and isn't waking up no matter what. Did you... know this?

[ As in "how can you act like nothing has happened" sort of way. ]

Of course I do. I wouldn't be a good partner if I missed that.

[ it's not hard to miss minato on the couch and all. ]

He's just feeling under the weather right now. Don't worry, I'm taking care of him.

[overstrain]

[ He glances over at where Minato's supposed to be. Having a fever and being completely unresponsive is "feeling under the weather"? Just that? Souji makes it sound so normal that Terry can't wrap his head around it. ]

... Okay, if you're sure...

[ ... ]

Right, um. The question. You've heard about some shady fortune teller in Hirajiro, right? They're the one who gave us the instructions to summon you guys here. It's kinda related to that.

[tarotcards]

[ well, it's not like souji isn't concerned but there's no point making terry worried about it. this is their business, not terry's. ]

What about them?

[overstrain]

Well, uh... they showed up again recently. They said something cryptic and then just literally vanished. I can't use my ability on them because it gets blocked off for some reason. Anyway, they said something like "rely not on borrowed strength which will be repaid in due course, but strength from within which will not forsake".

[ His memory is actually better compared to before, and it only really shows when he tries to remember more recent things, as opposed, to like... forty thousand years ago. ]

I know they're talking about Persona powers and whatever powers I have, but the thing I don't understand is which one is the sentence referring to in what part? I feel like it could fit in either way depending on how you see it, but I wanted to get a second opinion from someone.

[tarotcards]

[ souji raises a hand to place it under his chin, his thumb pressed against the corner of his mouth. he looks downwards as he thinks, repeating that phrase in his head. as he speaks, he still looks at nothing in particular. ]

... was this message directed specifically towards you or in general?

[overstrain]

We were sitting in front of each other one-on-one, but I feel like this statement doesn't just mean me alone. If that makes sense...?

[ Like Terry is some kind of middleman to tel everyone else. ]

[tarotcards]

[ he nods. that definitely makes sense. ]

If that's the case... perhaps the "strength within" refers to your Persona powers. Personas are, after all, ultimately your own powers. You were just given the proper devices to summon them.

[overstrain]

Does that mean the "borrowed powers" are stuff we're more used to where we came from? They're not exactly borrowed though...

[ This is so confusing, but in a place where Personas seem more prominent, he'll just have to agree the "power from within" is referring to Personas". ]

It sounds like karma will hit me if I keep using my own powers. But the other thing I don't get is that I don't know why we need this reminder.

[ Maybe it's not for everyone else, but Terry is dumb and is not thinking about his own things. He's been using his Persona less and less since he came here in July. ]
