The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

... I was so high strung over summoning "demons" and fighting Personas with my bare hands. What were you going to say?

[ Terry bends over and picks up the keys again. He's betting that it was something sappy. ]

An idiot.

[ He takes the keys back and stares at the keyring, trying to think of a better way to do this so it doesn't go flying off again. ]

I'm glad for it, though. Made you approachable.

So me threatening to kill you made me approachable, huh...

[ That's so... Minato-like. Terry can't help but to laugh a little at that. ]

But I'm glad that you're my friend.

Yeah. So when are you going to give me your house keys so I can add it to my collection?

[ He does the twirl again and the keys fly off his finger. ]

[ The keys smack Terry's forehead and he catches them. He doesn't give them back to Minato just yet though and twirls them calmly and slowly. Pretend that video isn't all tense. He tosses it up into the air and catches it in his hand and then gives it back to Minato. ]

I'll give you something better than a house key.

[ A showoff. Minato stares at the technique but he'll never be able to pull off, so he resigns himself to just holding the set of keys in cupped hands after getting them back again. ]

Chocolate malasadas.

[ Terry smiles a little again. ]

Alright, alright. I'll get some of those for you another time.

[ It would have been "next time" but time is weird. He has an idea for Minato's Christmas present too. ]

You should drop by the craft fair some time. They're selling food there too.

[ Minato shakes his head ]

It's different buying 'em myself. I like eating with people. If Souji's not around, I go out and feed the crows, and they keep me company.

[ He has no need for crafts, either. Souji might want to spend an obscene amount of money on sweaters for his 2134058394 cats, but there's no temperature in the Velvet Room so Minato doesn't need things like warm sweaters and fuzzy mittens. He rarely goes outside unless it's with somebody else too. ]

I mean... you can buy the stuff and share it with other people...?

[ Minato??? ]

Have you had Red's malasadas? They'd be gone by the time I get back to the Velvet Room.

[ Can't share these, Terry. The temptation is too great. ]

[ The food wins over companionship, huh... ]

No, because I was a dog back then. I wasn't allowed to eat one. I heard it was good though... is it THAT good?

[ y... eah ]

I think so. Red made it specifically for everybody to enjoy, so that sort of thought and care, you can tell. Wait here a sec—

[ Minato slips past Terry and heads to one of the rooms past the lounge, returning in a few moments with a plainly decorated envelope. It's new years money and he would like Terry to buy him pastries with it. ]

Kinda early, but I thought you'd be able to use it now rather than later. Chocolate was the best flavor.

[ Terry takes the envelope, opens it, and looks inside it--holy shit it's money. ]

Early? When were you gonna give me this then?

[ What's new years customs ]

Later in the month. Next month. They're supposed to be for when people visit relatives they haven't seen in a while. Like as support for when they can't be there for one another throughout the year.

[ Something like that? How Souji probably tried to explain it to him, anyways, because Minato doesn't have anything like family. ]

It's a culture thing... Buy stuff that makes you happy.

Oh. I'd say you've been there for me, but I'll take it anyway. I'll get you the malasadas.

[ Seeing his friends happy makes him happy too, so this works out. ]

[ Terry's a sap and Minato is happy to get malasadas. ]

Thanks. I won't always be here, though. I think... I'm on a time limit. Both Souji and me. Whatever deal it was we made with the Kotengu, I can't remember it yet, but... All of this needs to be finished by one year.

[ August, if it's a year since they appeared, or maybe July if it's when the first Guest arrived. Maybe earlier or later depending on how endgame goes, who knows. But Minato will only be around as an Attendant so long as he has Guests to guide, and by one year, either they'll all be dead or will have overturned everything in their path. Either way, they'll have reached the end of their journeys, and will no longer be Guests. He and Souji will no longer need to be Attendants. ]

You guys are almost there. So I'm not worried.

A year, huh...?

[ Terry thinks back on everything that happened in Hirajiro, even if several months of that journey is behind 40k years worth of memories. When Minato puts it like that, everything seems more urgent, and several months seem so close to someone who's more or less lived for tens of thousands of years. ]

Hopefully it won't mean you have to destroy the Guests if we've been unruly or whatever.

I don't think it'll come to that. It's my job to help you guys. More than that... I want to.

[ He holds his keyring up, but just to hold this time instead of twirling it around, falling quiet and dangling the keys in front of his eyes and looking at each of them in turn. This is something that's his- it has nothing to do with the Guest, he thinks... For whatever reason, it was deemed important that he got this back and remembered his old friends. Friends from another life. Friends he hasn't thought about in years and years and years.

Friendship used to be very important to him. Maybe that's the important point, and the Kotengu wanted him to realize this. Why? ]

I know some people have the whole "I'm not here to make friends" deal, but maybe in this sense, it helps them get motivated if we're friends, I think. A lot of important things that we had to deal with here lately hasn't been about how strong we are in destroying things in several seconds, but how well we can talk our way out of it by using bonds and stuff. I don't know why the crow decided to drop this off to you, but maybe it's telling you to be friends with the Guests? Even though it'll be hard work. Getting attached... might make you seem more human-like. Wasn't that what you wanted?

[ That time back at the personal Velvet Room was something Terry won't forget. ]

[ He lifts his shoulders a little, like he had wanted to shrug but then decided against it halfway through. ]

The first time I lived, I got attached to too many people, and I gave up my life in order to keep everybody in the world from being killed. I couldn't interact with people ever again. I was devastated. In my second life, I was attached to nobody, even with Souji there, loving Souji... with nothing else to live for, I killed myself. I regretted that a lot.

[ He sits back down on the conductor's seat, spinning a little with his feet kicking off the ground. ]

This last time, I tried really hard not to make friends. I pulled away from everyone... and ended up loving them anyways. They were my reason for living. I was the reason for all their deaths.

[ He shrugs now, spinning in his seat. ]

I'm always messing things up. I know I'm being used. If you guys are going to fight against the Kotengu, I'm going to be turned into your enemy. I don't want to kill any more of my friends.

[ Terry briefly wonders if the Kotengu is a sadist to the core, but then he decides that he doesn't have to wonder so much about it, when all the evidence is clearly there. He looks at Minato spinning in his seat. ]

Is that not something you can fight against?

[ Maybe, but Minato shakes his head anyways. Maybe it's an "I don't know" shake. ]

I'm bound by a contract. The terms of which I can't remember, but... I did all of this to myself. Becoming an Attendant which I hate so much. Giving up all the memories of everybody and everything I ever did. That was a choice. I must have gotten something very important promised in exchange, and if I weigh that against you guys...

[ He's not sure if he likes everybody here enough, if his hand were forced. He has Souji at his side, and that's enough. ]

I need to see this contract through.

[ It's understandable. That must have been a high price for something Minato would have really, really wanted. It's Minato, after all. Terry can see it happening. He stops to think, because Minato's declaration isn't really anything shocking, but only confirms what Terry thought before. He continues to watch Minato spinning in his seat until he stops it by poking Minato's forehead with a finger. ]

I wonder when you'll find out what that important thing was.

[ He squeezes his eyes shut at getting his forehead poked, but it stops him from spinning. Not being able to help everybody and stand beside them all when it really matters is for a very selfish reason as whatever that contract was made over, but it still feels important to him. He can't imagine what it is. Something so important, that he would throw away what's essentially his entire identity away over it. More than that, it's something Souji would have had to agree to too, if he's stuck on this wild ride with Minato. Good, kind, selfless Souji. This whole thing had better be worth it. ]

...me too. I've been trying to remember on my own. Going through the shrine and taking those memories back myself instead of waiting. It's been nostalgic. I feel like I understand things better now.

Yeah? Like what?

[ Terry kinda wants to joke around, but waits for Minato's reply. ]
