The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

Okay, so... I looked up the word "persona" in the dictionary. It said... uh...

[ Despite the hug, he's going to wiggle his arm out enough to get something from his pocket--a small piece of paper. ]

"The aspect of someone's character that is presented to or perceived by others". I tried to tie it together with the lecture [ that he still poorly retained btw ] and I still don't get how it's connected with the ability to summon other people's Personas. By that logic, if I act like someone else, I should be able to summon that person's Persona too, isn't it...?

Logically, yes, but things don't always follow logic's rules. It also has to do a lot with your own mental capability, personality, and power.

[ he places his hands on his knee while keeping his legs crossed. ]

When you use your Persona, what do you feel?

[ Is that how it works?? Terry shoves the paper back into his pocket. ]

... Was I supposed to feel something in particular every time I use my Persona? I guess it depends on what's going on at the time. I depended on him a lot to kill stuff in the way, but... hm...

It's not all the time, but sometimes when I look at Vassago, I feel like I'm staring at everything I hate. Though I already told Minato this because he asked for it too.

[ souji doesn't answer terry's question. that's something that he'll let terry wonder and think about. instead, he'll focus on the answer instead. ]

And what's the reason for that hatred? Is it rejection? Denial? Regret?

First two? Probably.

I'm a clone of someone. Vassago reminds me of my original. Minato said it was like how Vassago reminds me of someone I was supposed to be instead of what I want to be.

Mm, Minato put it nicely.

Persona is, to put it cheesily, the power of the heart. It's your strength. If you harbour such negative feelings over an aspect of yourself, you won't be able to utilize Vassago to his best abilities, much less even think about taking on a different Persona.

So basically, what I need to do is accept that part of myself?

[ That... That will be difficult. Terry knows this. He was completely fine with himself before he came to Hirajiro though, but that was only because he never had to think about these kinds of things. He was much happier then, living in both physical and mental peace.

[ souji, while still having his hands on his knee, lifts his index finger and mara disappears after giving terry a pat on the head. he supposes that now that they're having an actual discussion, he can put away the persona. ]

If you continue to deny that part of yourself, you'll only make things harder.

... Is that what you meant by the shadowy wisps under the Persona? Does the Persona die when it consumes them?

[ Terry just ends up standing now that Mara is gone, but he really doesn't feel like standing right now. He just goes to plop on the cushiony seat of the couch in the room, since Souji is making a "i'm the fucking boss" pose on the chair. ]

Because I don't think I can accept that anytime soon, if ever.

Mm, it wouldn't die. Personas never die unless the host does. To kill a Persona is to kill a part of you and if that happens, you might be nothing but just a shadow of your former self.

You'll have to eventually accept it. Whether you find it unfortunate or not, you are now put in the position that an aspect of your ego has manifested into a physical form. If you don't learn how to accept yourself completely, you'll find yourself on the wrong end of Vassago's fangs.

... Oh.

[ He remembers during the time when Vassago was let loose in broad daylight in the middle of the town. He felt something crack within him that day. He felt all the years and progress of the peace unravel. "Terrence Nowell" was needed and wanted.

"I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I was anything like my original...!"

Yeah... he said that, didn't he? That's when Vassago appeared, his cries like an anguished scream echoing through the market street.

He never minded people calling him Terrence before, but ever since he came here and had to think about everything, he wanted to make the distinction between himself and his original even more. What was just a mere nickname before had become something more important. Even under the Truth Mechanism, he couldn't say that "Terrence Nowell" was his name.

That happened once.

[ souji watches terry with those sharp golden eyes. he still maintains his pose on the chair, unmoving. ]

Was that the time you saw those shadowy wisps?

... Yeah. I didn't see it any other times, though he did go crazy again.

[ doctor souji, how is my persona ]

Mm... well, you know what you have to do, right?

[ to tell you bluntly: you're fucked ]

[ Ugh.

Terry looks up at the ceiling for a while, quiet. How is he supposed to accept something that's made him suffer so long, something that made him feel like he was forced to accept or else no one else would accept him?

...

Terry can't find an answer. It doesn't feel like he would be able to find one any time soon either. He closes his eyes. It's fine. This is Fine. He'll keep telling himself that. ]

... I guess so.

[ But he has absolutely 0 confidence that he'd be able to do it. He feels like there wouldn't be any point in telling Souji that, because this is his problem now. ]

[ souji doesn't say anything while terry remains quiet. instead, he just watches and hm, yeah, he has a feeling that terry really won't be coming around to accepting that part of himself anytime soon. well, he can't step in and tell him what to do or help him much further than that. this is the most that he can really do as a guide. ]

[ ... ]

C'mon, let's get some tea.

[ he stands up from his chair and straightens his jacket and tie. ]

I'll pour you a cup.

[ Terry looks back down, looking over at Souji when he suggests he tea. He's never really been much of a tea person, but he won't decline it when he feels like this now. ]

Yeah, sure.

[ He gets up. That bottle is still missing from his room, huh. ]

[ it is absolutely still missing and it'll never come back. well, it'll probably reappear eventually but that's assuming that either minato or souji wouldn't take it first... but souji will lead the way back to the kitchen. he'll begin to prepare two cups of hot tea and luckily, it won't take long since he runs the kettle at the same time that he's preparing to get everything. ]

Here. It's hot.

[ he holds out the mug to terry as he holds his own. afterwards, he leans back on the kitchen counter. ]

I know that Minato and I can be difficult sometimes. That's just how we are. We can be frustrating, annoying, and a real pain, but at the end of the day, we're still your guides. If you need anything, we'll be here and still help. We'll listen if you need to talk.

[ souji has enough self-awareness to know when he can be pretty irritating, but he does genuinely want to help. he doesn't want terry to get the wrong idea about him and minato. ]

... Yeah, I get that. Minato said a lot of stuff when you were knocked unconscious.

[ Terry takes the mug by the handle so that he doesn't burn his hands. He blows a little on the surface to help it cool a bit. ]

He also said something about how he wanted you to have new friends.

[ does that make you doki yet ]

Yeah! And when I asked him if he wanted the same, he said no, but he totally wouldn't mind having new friends.

[ they make such a good pair honestly ]

[ he laughs a bit. ]

Yeah, he wouldn't. [ he takes a sip from his cup. ] I hope you can become friends with him. He'll grow on you.

[ Terry also takes a quiet sip from his cup, feeling a little pensive. ]

You guys are just like any other people I met. I mean, you two have clear advantages and know more stuff than us, but it kinda feels like... you're at our level in terms of just being "people".

[ ... ]

... I'm not sure if I said that right.

[ just being "people", huh? what happened to the whole "demon" thing? souji takes another sip. ]
