The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

...Interesting probably fits. A lot of the students there were really lively.

[Because they were animals and super excited to be learning human things.]

[ Minato smiles a little at that, because he's assuming the opposite, with humans being super excited to be learning animal things. ]

Sounds like it... Seems like a place that'd be filled with lots of good memories. Lots of bad ones, too. So it's kinda not surprising that this is where the dungeon first opened up, huh?

Is that why the dungeon appeared?

[Bad memories?]

Um... Dunno if it's the main reason, but Shadows are born from people. So at the very least... Yeah. Something like that.

[ He shrugs to punctuate his unhelpfulness. People. Maybe it's a given already, but it might still be nice to be assured they probably won't have to go combing the mountain range for one of the dungeons. Probably. ]

Then... it's not just because that place in particular is special. It's just because it's a place humans are focused on a lot?

[ ...Minato smiles faintly. ]

Doesn't people focusing a lot on a place make it special?

[...Er.]

I meant... it's not special because of gods or spirits.

[ Minato... shrugs. Haha. ]

Things become special because people make it so. Gods and spirits draw power from people's beliefs as well... Does that make sense?

[ Whether or not gods or spirits or Shadows or whatever are involved, the root of it all is people. It'll always be people. ]

That's not how it is where I'm from.

[But he doesn't sound about ready to argue it or anything, either. Just a statement of fact.]

Yeah?

[ Nothing in the question but curiosity, something Minato can't help whenever he catches a glimpse of somebody maybe talking about themselves. ]

What's it like where you're from?

...There are a lot of creatures that exist whether humans know it or not. We don't give them any power. It's up to them if they want to try interacting with us.

[And there's many that do, because they find humans fascinating enough to imitate.]

The spirit I told you about didn't have any more strength because I realized she was there. And she won't last any longer with or without me.

[It's not really about himself, though.]

[ It's... yeah. Minato was hoping it would be at least tangentially about Sasuke. Even if he's just stating fact, he was hoping for something in his voice he might pick up, an opinion, and emotion. Souji has these tiny little tells Minato knows to look out for, but it's hard with a stranger he doesn't know. ]

Any way to get her back her strength?

[ He'll ask these sorts of questions, he supposes, ones where responses of fact are enough, rather than the "do you want her to regain her strength" he's more interested in ]

[Whether or not he's aware of Minato fishing for information, his words continue to be more statements than anything else.]

You've tried looking for a way?

[ There's some difference between something being impossible, and just not finding a solution. But already Minato's looking away, feeling like this butts into personal territory and he isn't here for this. ]

[He shakes his head.]

No. All I did was stay with her for a while. Anything to help her... it's beyond my abilities.

How do you know?

[ The question is quiet, addressed to his own shoes. ]

Because she used to be a snake. And humans can't do anything about animals with magic. Only other animals can.

[ ...He doesn't quite get it, but he supposes that's just how things work in other worlds. ]

Are you friends with any animals? A dog?

[ The slight lilt of hope is hard to keep out of his voice. After 35042394850 years in that prison train, they had to land in a town with infinite cats and no dogs. ]

...Other animals, yes. No dogs, though.

It's mostly cats, foxes, and tanuki. There's some others besides that, but those three are the most common.

[Almost like they're the ones with histories of transforming their appearances.]

There were two wolves?

[ His expression falls a little with the unfortunate news of no dogs, but it picks right back up when Sasuke mentions the other animals. Souji would like foxes, Minato thinks to himself— he'd think they were funny— and the small smile is back on his face again. ]

Cool. Did they all get along?

[ With Sasuke. With the snake spirit. Why don't they help? ]

Mostly. They had to post reminders not to eat or drink other students.

All of them know how to transform into humans, but they're still learning how to act like them. So even if they don't totally get along, they're trying to because they all want the same thing.

[ ...Um? Sasuke??

"Drink" had thrown Minato off a little, but then Sasuke comes bulldozing through with "students" and "transform" and it takes a moment for things to click in place. ]

A furry school... but like the opposite.

That's how they usually start out. After a while, animals gain power. Then it's up to them if they want to learn how to use that power to appear human, or to teach others how to do the same, or forget everything and become normal animals again.

I think it was probably the same for that snake spirit.
