The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

🢒🢒 minato The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

🢒🢒 souji The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

[ not having a conversation is completely fine with him. sometimes, silence is also nice so he just occupies himself by taking in his surroundings as he walks. when he sees the records shop, he's amused. everyone seems to be really shitting on their music, aren't they? ]

I take it that you're not a fan of the music in the Velvet Room?

Last month's was way better than this month's, but some variety never hurts. What sort of music do you—

[ Actually, no. The Attendants' music taste is the problem. ]

...Let's just take a look around. If there's anything familiar to me, I can make some recommendations.

[ he nods. he's not sure what he should be looking for because he isn't very good with music. he knows what he likes by just hearing it, but genres? those are lost on him. metal and power metal? rock and alternative rock? pop and progressive pop? what are the differences? he has no idea. he's just given music and he determines what songs he likes and doesn't like purely based on the songs themselves and nothing else. ]

[ he just idly goes through a rack, letting his fingers comb through a few cases and just really looking at the art covers rather than anything else. ]

What do you listen to?

[ I am Souji who knows nothing about music, but the Kagerou Wiki's got my back and Kido talks about whatever genre Oasis, RADIOHEAD, and Shugo Tokumaru belong to.

I like to imagine there's an album with this on it that Kido's trying really hard not to stare at while trying to convince Souji her favorite music is rock or whatever. When will we have internet so Souji can watch this in all its glory? ]

[ let's bring in internet for a single day so souji can watch that video along with a hundred vines so he can reenact them all. also i just checked out those artists and kido listens to such cute songs, laughs, i expect something heavier but shugo tokumaru has cute pop songs, laughs. kido looking >:( but listening to cheery flowy pop songs gives me life. ]

[ also souji absolutely sees that album that kido is trying really hard not to look at. he immediately reaches over for it because it has cute cats on it and he has no idea what songs are on it but he needs it. ]

[ souji looks around for a player that they could use to sample the record and luckily finds one nearby. it's not like there are a lot of customers in a store like this so he walks on over and takes the record out of the case, carefully setting it. there are a pair of headphones connected to the machine and he holds them out towards kido. ]

Here. Tell me what you think.

[ kido's the one who thinks they need more variety in the velvet room so if she likes it then he supposes that he'd be good with it as well. ]

Why does that matter? You're the one who's going to have to listen to it day in and day out, not me. It'll be more efficient if you bring me a stack of ones you like, and I'll do the final quality check.

[ You can't work of other people's opinions this time, Souji. Gotta for your own opinions first, then Kido can shoot them down one by one. ]

[ honestly, music is one of those things that he doesn't have such a strong opinion on that he's more than fine working with other people's opinions. that's why he just lets minato play whatever songs he wants to play. he just occasionally likes to put on his p4 pop to change things up. ]

[ He's making work hard for Kido, who puts on the headphones and the song is so cute and the cover is so cute and she's trying really hard not to smile and all she can do is hide her face behind her hand to keep Souji from seeing it. This can be October's Velvet Room theme song while Shadow Terry tears everybody apart. ]

[ the junes song blasts loudly as terry brings in dead people and the neko march song plays as literally everyone dies in terry's dungeon. very fitting. souji will go off and pick up a few more records before he walks back. i wasn't kidding when i said that he would only choose songs based on cats so he comes back with nyan cat, meow by or3o, and the background theme song for neko atsume. i would link the youtube videos but i am on mobile so i cannot so just imagine those songs with appropriate cats on the cover. ]

Do you like it?

[ he sees her covering her mouth with her hand. either it's because she hates it so much that she wants to throw up or she's trying to cover a smile, like minato does sometimes. ]

[ Tsubo shared this with me and I need you to see it too, somebody get Souji Neko Atsume VR someday so he can join Minato in lying on the couch all day and pawing at the air ]

[ She's surprised to hear Souji come back so soon, pulling the headphones down to rest on her shoulders. ]

It's... well, pretty cute, I guess. I don't know if it's your thing, but it's sort of in line with what you have playing right now.

[ holy shit, souji absolutely needs to get that LOL someone gives it to him and then they don't see him for the next month because he's too busy playing with both his virtual and actual cats. ]

Is that so? I don't have a big preference when it comes to music.

[ he sets down the records on the counter by the player. ]

Is it something you'd prefer hearing than what we've put on before?

[ The answer is yes, but will she admit it? No. ]

That last one with the guitar wasn't bad... But why do you need music at all? It might be easier for Minato to sleep if it were quiet, and I thought you'd get bored of hearing the same thing all the time.

Mm, I suppose the silence is more boring. You'd have to ask Minato why he wants to keep the music playing.

[ it probably doesn't even register that much anymore. you learn how to tune it out automatically after a number of years. ]

He gets defensive if I try to change his music.

[reveilation]

That's why you should buy a music player. Then you can listen to your own stuff, without bothering anybody else.

[ This feels like the logical answer anybody would come up with, so she's not sure why they insist on having a ...radio or whatever it is playing in the train. Kido digs into her jacket pocket and finds her own mp3 player and earbuds, untangling the cord before handing it over to Souji. ]

With this, it's easier to carry around, and you can play it as loud as you want in your head, without anybody else hearing.

[ he takes the mp3 player and rolls it around in his hands, examining it. he can see the appeal in it. it's light and very portable. ]

You need a computer to put songs onto it, right?

[ not something that they have in the velvet room, but he figures that the library or schools here would have them. ]

If I get one, would you help me with it?

[reveilation]

...Wow, you're like a grandpa.

[ With the hair and the technological ineptitude. ]

But sure, I can help you out. I'll show you how to do it once, and then you'll know for the future.

Could you do it for me every time I want something new?

[ find the kindness in your heart, kido. ]

No. Weren't you listening? I'm only going to do it one time.

[ That one time is the kindness of her heart ]

This way, you'll be able to learn something new, and you don't have to wait or depend on me every time you need something.

I suppose, but someone's going to have to take me out of the Velvet Room every now and then for that.

[ he could go on his own butttttt that's not fun. ]

I'm not always going to be in the Velvet Room, Souji... If you can manage to leave the train to get to my front door, you can manage to leave the train to find and operate a computer. You can do it. I believe in you.

[ She takes back what she thought about Souji being a grandpa; he's more like a toddler on the first day of kindergarten, who can go out and do things himself but still wants to cling onto somebody familiar. ]

[ that's a very accurate description of souji. he's absolutely a toddler. he even puts on his sad baby voice. ]

But I'll be so lonely... and the world outside is so scary...

...Yeah, but once you meet more people, it'll be less lonely, and the world becomes less scary. It doesn't have to be me— there are lots of other people who would help, if you ask.
