The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

[ Minato nods slowly, because yeah... people... Unlike Souji, he doesn't really get along well with people and doesn't really "get" them, despite enjoying listening to them and watching them go about their days. ]

They're different. A Persona's a reflection, after all. Mind telling me about the real one?

[ And why Sasuke hates the real one so much... Maybe it'll help Minato know how to guide him, versus passing him off to Souji to do the guiding. ]

She's...

[Another hesitation, but this time because he's not really sure where to begin. He never really planned to talk about her, ever.]

...She's an old spirit. Incredibly old. That's why she's fading. I don't think she remembers much, not even her own name.

[It's why he's refusing to try to call her anything in particular.]

She's still powerful, though. She can take anything she wants for herself. But... sometimes, she'll do it for others, too. If they ask her to take something away, she can lock it up so it's like it doesn't exist anymore.

[He doesn't hate her. Far from it. While he wasn't happy spending time with her, she offered him a reprieve he couldn't ever have at home. When he was with her, he could just rest. Even if his feelings went numb, there was never any pain.

He'd made sure of that. He'd asked her to lock away so many things. Even if he felt guilt knowing it was wrong to do so, it was so much easier to have her lock away his senses until he couldn't hurt anymore.

Pity those senses seemed to have returned once he came here. It would've been nice, not having to worry about feeling painfully hot during that heatwave.]

[ Huh... That does make her sound like an incredibly powerful spirit, if she can take whatever she want and make it hers- benevolent if she does it for others, frightening if she makes things disappear completely, as if they never were.

Minato's silent as Sasuke speaks, and remains silent a little while longer after Sasuke finishes, in case there's anything else he'd like to say.

When there isn't, Minato provides another prompt ]

What is she to you?

[That's so often the way of these things, isn't it?]

...She found me when I got lost. [It's half a lie. He'd run away, fallen. Didn't have any desire to get up again.] When I woke up, I was laying in the darkness and there she was.

I didn't really mind it, though. So I just... stayed. Sometimes I'd watch with her when she called up visions of the outside. She let me stay like that for about two years.

[Apparently. He hadn't really cared about the time until he rejoined the world.]

...She was just a spirit who decided to pick me up because of a whim, I guess.

[This is nowhere near the full story. He's very bad at being guided, it seems.]

...So she adopted you like picking up a stray cat off the streets.

[ Esssentially, it boils down to that. Minato nods to himself... ]

What do you feel towards her? And... what do you think she feels towards you?

[ Probably something like gratitude on Sasuke's side, but if that's the case, why would there be a disparity making Sasuke think he can't work with his Persona? There has to be something more he's not telling Minato. ]

[Minato is not wrong. There's yet another pause, and then:]

Will she stop acting like that if I figure out those things?

[That's... not an answer.]

Well... it'll help, I think. Acknowledgement goes a long way, but there's also accepting and all that...

[ Which is the hardest part, sometimes, and Minato isn't in a position where he can help people through that part of the process. Saying "this sucks" is one thing, but it's another thing entirely to go "that's me, I suck." ...Though, maybe not in Sasuke's case... ]

Being able to answer this question might help too: What do you feel towards yourself?

[The silence that follows that question is probably pretty telling.]

...I'll figure something out.

[Because he definitely can't go down this conversation path. He'll look ahead to the stairwell down the hall.]

Do you want to check out the other floors?

[ SASUKE..........

Minato doesn't move right away, because he doesn't feel this is where the conversation should be left hanging, so he just offers a mumbly ]

Yeah. I have faith you'll figure it out. And it's not like you have to report it to anybody or anything, least of all to me... It's enough that you address it for your own sake, not somebody else's.

[ before looking to the stairs, head craning up to see what the floor above is like as he climbs the steps. If there's any memory he's going to get from this school, it's going to be the fact that he hates stairs. ]

Mm. I have a lot to think about.

[Such as how his Persona and the actual snake spirit aren't one and the same, and the chances of her appearing in this world for real. If she came to this world as well, he could just lock himself away, and no one would be the wiser.

So A+ solutions, clearly.

Anyway, up the stairs they go!]

Looks like this is the floor for second years.

[ Minato hopes he at least takes the extra time in the Velvet Room to do some of that thinking, but if he just sleeps, that's valid too. ]

It's by grades, huh... Every year, you gotta climb more stairs.

[ That sucks. The third years should be on the bottom floor because they're old and tired and the first years should be on top because they're young and spry. ]

Did you go to school?

[Maybe he'll just use his time to brood, is that an option?]

Yeah. I was a first year in high school.

[This is True Enough.]

[ Brooding is okay... Minato will accept brooding. ]

Was school fun? Or was it at least "interesting"?

[ To use Sasuke's words. ]

...Interesting probably fits. A lot of the students there were really lively.

[Because they were animals and super excited to be learning human things.]

[ Minato smiles a little at that, because he's assuming the opposite, with humans being super excited to be learning animal things. ]

Sounds like it... Seems like a place that'd be filled with lots of good memories. Lots of bad ones, too. So it's kinda not surprising that this is where the dungeon first opened up, huh?

Is that why the dungeon appeared?

[Bad memories?]

Um... Dunno if it's the main reason, but Shadows are born from people. So at the very least... Yeah. Something like that.

[ He shrugs to punctuate his unhelpfulness. People. Maybe it's a given already, but it might still be nice to be assured they probably won't have to go combing the mountain range for one of the dungeons. Probably. ]

Then... it's not just because that place in particular is special. It's just because it's a place humans are focused on a lot?

[ ...Minato smiles faintly. ]

Doesn't people focusing a lot on a place make it special?

[...Er.]

I meant... it's not special because of gods or spirits.

[ Minato... shrugs. Haha. ]

Things become special because people make it so. Gods and spirits draw power from people's beliefs as well... Does that make sense?

[ Whether or not gods or spirits or Shadows or whatever are involved, the root of it all is people. It'll always be people. ]

That's not how it is where I'm from.

[But he doesn't sound about ready to argue it or anything, either. Just a statement of fact.]

Yeah?

[ Nothing in the question but curiosity, something Minato can't help whenever he catches a glimpse of somebody maybe talking about themselves. ]

What's it like where you're from?

...There are a lot of creatures that exist whether humans know it or not. We don't give them any power. It's up to them if they want to try interacting with us.

[And there's many that do, because they find humans fascinating enough to imitate.]

The spirit I told you about didn't have any more strength because I realized she was there. And she won't last any longer with or without me.

[It's not really about himself, though.]
