The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

🢒🢒 minato The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

🢒🢒 souji The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

Uh. I guess that's a possibility.

[ But there are so many other ways everybody could be under the influence. At the same time, there could be no outside influence at all. Minato is just here to spread paranoia, he's apparently not interested in giving anything concrete, going back to petting Vassago on the head. ]

[ At least Vassago seems to like it, the same way that Terry does. ]

... That's a pretty mean prank to play.

[ Though he doesn't refer to Minato when he says that as he looks off to the side. Seeing who they miss most, to the point when he saw Kido's reaction upon not being able to find Ayano... he kinda wants to kill whoever pulled this off. If it's a force of nature, maybe he'll shred that too. ]

[ Pranks are done for the sake of entertainment, but sometimes it's just the nature of life to feel like all of fate is mocking you. Sometimes, things just happen. Sometimes, things just are. It depends on what you make of it, Minato is so bad at conveying these sorts of feelings to people, no matter how strongly he feels them. Seeing somebody you miss, after all, can be encouragement just as much as it a cruel joke. ]

...It's hard fighting against something you don't understand, huh?

[ Why Terry doesn't like mysteries in real life. Maybe it's because, by definition of the word, a mystery is something that can't be understood yet. It's something shrouded and twisted and meant to deceive, not something that can be dealt with with direct action. ]

Give it time. You'll figure things out. So long as you're still living, it's not over.

[overstrain]

[ Minato hit the nail on the head. That's exactly why Terry doesn't like them. He quietly sighs as if that's his response to his question. He's never been good at thinking about stuff, or regulating when he does, so getting physical to deal with his problems was much more preferable like beating things up. It bugs him, but Minato is right again--as long as he's still alive, it's not over. Well, at least until everything gets revealed to him somehow and the dire consequences are already set in stone.

He tilts his head down after staring at the ceiling for some time and sits back up on his seat. ]

Yeah, I hope so.

[ ... ]

Wait, why are you keeping my charm thing? Can I have it back?

[compendiem]

You don't need it in here.

[ Minato answers neither of those questions, as expected. It's not like Minato needs it either, though, seeing as he can summon Vassago or any other Persona without using a charm, and he just sort of summons them to lounge around like house cats for company instead of calling them out to do anything useful. For him, the Personas are companions; it must be weird for some of the other Persona users out there to think about them like that. ]

Anyways. We solved your first problem. [ They did not. ] What's the second one you want to tackle?

[overstrain]

[ I mean... they sorta did. Kinda. Just a bit--okay, yeah. They didn't. Terry squints over at Minato with that realization and just... what does he even say to that. ]

We... didn't solve anything though?

[ Minato? Being straightforward? Solving his problems? Sounds fake. ]

[compendiem]

Yeah we did. What's next on your mind?

[ We're moving on, Terry!!! Maybe the first problem he should have tackled is solving Minato's way of thinking. ]

[overstrain]

[ ...

Well. Okay then. ]

I can't find the exit out of this universe. I've been able to find exits out of dimensions and worlds before, but this is the first time that there's nothing like that.

[compendiem]

What do you mean there's no exit? It's right outside.

[ Wow, problem number two turned out to be pretty simple to solve, in the end. He has to dig back through the conversation to remember the third problem, though. ]

[overstrain]

... What?

[ ??? ]

What are you talking about? There's no exit anywhere near here! Unless you meant the Velvet Room, then yeah, I know you can just walk through the portal and leave...

[compendiem]

[ ??? ]

I'm pretty sure you've seen the exit...? Do you need me to show you?

[overstrain]

... Yeah, show me.

[ Amaze him, Minato. ]

[compendiem]

[ He gives Terry one last concerned look, before pushing himself off the couch, leaving Vassago behind to disappear when Minato exits the Velvet Room through the portal in Terry's room.

It opens up into the castle, and he doesn't have to walk far after that. In fact, he doesn't even walk all the way there, just enough that the ofuda door at the center of the castle is visible, and Minato can point to it from afar. ]

[overstrain]

[ Terry goes over to look at the ofuda door and tries to push the door. When nothing happens, he tries to punch it, but that... ends up hurting his own hand instead.

It's so frustrating to have the exit right here, but he can't even think of ways to get through it, but for other people. He wouldn't want to leave anyway... ]

[compendiem]

[ Minato watches Terry punch the door, wincing a little at the rebound, but doesn't move from his spot halfway between the door at the throne. ]

...Have you talked with anybody about leaving? [ It's a conversation Terry's reluctant to bring up, he'd imagine, but still, ]

The way to open this door is already known. Tsubomi knows.

[ Also RO but ??? if they talk ]

[ Who the hell is--right, that's Kido. He still needs to get used to that. That must have been why she asked him to look into this door. Too bad he couldn't find out anything about it. ]

I don't want to leave, but I know some people who do. [ And that's all that matters. ]

[compendiem]

[ He doesn't need to get used to Kido's first name, nobody is ever going to use it... ]

Why does that matter? You do what you want, they do what they want.

[ Anyways, Minato is not the best person to talk about this with. ]

[overstrain]

It matters because I want to help them leave, since it's important for them that they do.

[ Terry just looks at Minato while trying to ignore the pain in his hand. C'mon, Minato. He said that everyone has strengths and weaknesses about being a guide, but he didn't think Minato would be this bad. ]

[compendiem]

[ Minato is, unfortunately, just this bad ]

Then, help them leave? If that's what you want to do.

[ HE DOESN'T GET WHAT THE PROBLEM IS/is there even a problem? ]

[overstrain]

Yeah! That's what I'm trying to do! But this door is in the way! It won't open!

[ They're just confusing each other today, aren't they... ]

[compendiem]

[ God, yeah. If the problem is the door, then Minato just laughs, one of those short huffs of breath that makes his shoulders jump. ]

It'll open. I'm telling you: you guys already know how to open it. You're not the only one trying to get the door open, Terrence. You can rely on others, and ask them for help.

[ Them and not Minato, whose job is to help.

Or, Terry can use his brain and look down at the door, and maybe he'll notice the ofuda with the tengu's name, see the empty slots, and put two and two together himself. ]

[overstrain]

[ He pretty much pinpointed everything about the Boss Tengu EXCEPT for the name because he didn't think he'd need to know some overgrown bird that he'd kill soon.

...

I don't think he knows that they're dropped by the Tengu either, so he has no idea what to make of it. He's dumb... ]

I guess that's why Kido looked so sure...

[ Well, whatever. He feels pain from his hand again and looks at Minato. ]

... Can you heal my hand?

[compendiem]

I can, yeah.

[ But he does not heal Terry's hand. ]

[overstrain]

[ He sighs. Terry should have seen this coming. ]

Name your price, oh great Attendant. What will it take for you to whimsically heal my hand?

[compendiem]

Come back and do my homework again, someday.

[ It's a pretty open ended request, and because it's open, Minato doesn't expect Terry to ever complete it. He still reaches into his pockets and underhand tosses a ziplock bag towards Terry. It's a bag of amanatto, and each candied bean will heal Terry a little. It was Minato's snack but it can be Terry's replacement soda. ]
