The Velvet Room exists between the consciousness and subconsciousness. It is inaccessible by characters who do not wield a Persona or have lost their Persona for various different reasons. In fact, its entire existence is limited only to Persona users and to the regular individual, they will not be able to even see the entrance to the room. Although it is stationed primarily in the castle, the entrance of the Velvet Room may also be found in various different locations, such as by the dungeons and the shrine. Sometimes, there may be a "malfunction" and an ordinary door will actually lead into the Velvet Room. Why does that happen? Well... perhaps characters will have to ask the attendants for that answer.

Within the room, two attendants occupy the space. These attendants act as guides and will perform various different duties in order to assist the characters. They will pass on plot information, answer questions, give out requests (with the promise of a reward, of course), forge magic-infused weapons, heal, and such on. Requests, in particular, are given out ICly and OOCly monthly and may be undertaken by any character who wishes to complete them. Please see the first toplevel of this entry for more information.

The attendants may be regularly contacted by entering the Velvet Room and, as a result, players may comment to this entry to interact with either attendant. Players may specify which attendant that they'd like to interact with or allow the mods to choose. These threads may be used towards AC and bonus activity. However, due to the attention-intensive nature of NPC threads, these threads may be quickly wrapped up in order to save time for the mods.

The attendant you might have to wake up, pretending to be asleep so you have to bother Souji instead of him. His requests tend towards what he wants to do or eat at the moment, but he seems to enjoy seeing the world, though he isn't always good company. Seriously. Go bother Souji instead.

The more talkative attendant between the two, though he could say some pretty bizarre things. He also seems overly fond of cats for some reason and will unironically go "nya". His requests normally seem to involve taking him out somewhere or bringing him particularly... strange objects.

[ He lets his hand drop from the wall, and turns to Sasuke. ]

Damage to the psyche can do that. A traumatic experience that's enough of a shock... But it's not impossible to recover from that.

[ The townspeople all did. The ones with the omamori... well. It's not impossible. ]

[Damage to the psyche. And it happened to Kokichi right after his Persona went out of control.

Sasuke's expression becomes serious. If his own Persona keeps refusing to listening to him, then...]

How what?

[ How to damage a psyche or how to recover? ]

How do you recover from it?

...If somebody's going through a hard time 'cause of some traumatic accident, how would you help them through it?

[ The solution isn't magic, though it can seem that way sometimes. ]

Something like that, you have the power to help already. You don't need me.

[It's not really the answer he was looking for. Magic really would be preferred here.]

...I don't know how to do that, either.

[And he's the one probably most at risk of falling to it in the first place, if their Personas being unruly is indeed a factor.]

Then it's something you're better off asking somebody else. Souji is cheating, so not him.

[ He can't really do anything to prevent Sasuke from talking to Souji about it, but Souji is a softy who'd probably tell... and it would be best if Sasuke were comfortable enough with other people to talk about this sort of thing. They're the ones who has to deal with it, after all, not Minato or Souji. ]

Otherwise, it's fine learning as you go along. Spend some time with the people you're worried about... I think you'll get it eventually.

[There's a nonzero chance he ends up running to Souji, because opening up to people sounds super fake. He already knows his faults, and the thought of exposing how deep those failures went to anyone else is unbearable.

But also:]

...I can't control my Persona. The most recent person who became that way couldn't, either.

[ ...ah. That's a much more difficult problem, isn't it? But at the same time, maybe it's easier, because people tend to care about others more than they do themselves— or at least Minato likes to think so. ]

I see... Do you have any thoughts as to why, yet?

[He shakes his head.]

I barely know what a Persona is. But the others don't all have the same problem.

A Persona is... Ah, I'll give you the same homework Souji gave Terrence. Look up the word in the dictionary, and come back and tell me if you understand it any better.

[ Or, just ask Terry, since he's already done the homework and passed. ]

If you do that... I think it'll be clearer why some people get along with their Personas and why some don't, despite the fact that they're all born from people.

[Bringing him to town wasn't enough, huh...

Sasuke's gaze drifts to the classrooms as they pass them.]

Born from people...

They aren't really the spirits they look like, right?

Not literally, no... Their forms are a reflection of what humankind knows, but everybody has different interpretations of them. Stuff like names and appearances aren't all that important, anyways.

[ Sasuke's Persona is kind of weird, in that sense. ]

Something you're curious about?

Humankind?

[Yeah, his does seem weird with that kind of description.

There's another moment of hesitation before he speaks up again, but really, Minato's kind of a strange entity anyway - and somehow, he doesn't get the feeling Minato's much the type to blab to the others.

(This is probably at least a little bit because Minato seems happier sleeping rather than talking to people.)]

...I know the real one. The Persona's... different.

[ Minato nods slowly, because yeah... people... Unlike Souji, he doesn't really get along well with people and doesn't really "get" them, despite enjoying listening to them and watching them go about their days. ]

They're different. A Persona's a reflection, after all. Mind telling me about the real one?

[ And why Sasuke hates the real one so much... Maybe it'll help Minato know how to guide him, versus passing him off to Souji to do the guiding. ]

She's...

[Another hesitation, but this time because he's not really sure where to begin. He never really planned to talk about her, ever.]

...She's an old spirit. Incredibly old. That's why she's fading. I don't think she remembers much, not even her own name.

[It's why he's refusing to try to call her anything in particular.]

She's still powerful, though. She can take anything she wants for herself. But... sometimes, she'll do it for others, too. If they ask her to take something away, she can lock it up so it's like it doesn't exist anymore.

[He doesn't hate her. Far from it. While he wasn't happy spending time with her, she offered him a reprieve he couldn't ever have at home. When he was with her, he could just rest. Even if his feelings went numb, there was never any pain.

He'd made sure of that. He'd asked her to lock away so many things. Even if he felt guilt knowing it was wrong to do so, it was so much easier to have her lock away his senses until he couldn't hurt anymore.

Pity those senses seemed to have returned once he came here. It would've been nice, not having to worry about feeling painfully hot during that heatwave.]

[ Huh... That does make her sound like an incredibly powerful spirit, if she can take whatever she want and make it hers- benevolent if she does it for others, frightening if she makes things disappear completely, as if they never were.

Minato's silent as Sasuke speaks, and remains silent a little while longer after Sasuke finishes, in case there's anything else he'd like to say.

When there isn't, Minato provides another prompt ]

What is she to you?

[That's so often the way of these things, isn't it?]

...She found me when I got lost. [It's half a lie. He'd run away, fallen. Didn't have any desire to get up again.] When I woke up, I was laying in the darkness and there she was.

I didn't really mind it, though. So I just... stayed. Sometimes I'd watch with her when she called up visions of the outside. She let me stay like that for about two years.

[Apparently. He hadn't really cared about the time until he rejoined the world.]

...She was just a spirit who decided to pick me up because of a whim, I guess.

[This is nowhere near the full story. He's very bad at being guided, it seems.]

...So she adopted you like picking up a stray cat off the streets.

[ Esssentially, it boils down to that. Minato nods to himself... ]

What do you feel towards her? And... what do you think she feels towards you?

[ Probably something like gratitude on Sasuke's side, but if that's the case, why would there be a disparity making Sasuke think he can't work with his Persona? There has to be something more he's not telling Minato. ]

[Minato is not wrong. There's yet another pause, and then:]

Will she stop acting like that if I figure out those things?

[That's... not an answer.]

Well... it'll help, I think. Acknowledgement goes a long way, but there's also accepting and all that...

[ Which is the hardest part, sometimes, and Minato isn't in a position where he can help people through that part of the process. Saying "this sucks" is one thing, but it's another thing entirely to go "that's me, I suck." ...Though, maybe not in Sasuke's case... ]

Being able to answer this question might help too: What do you feel towards yourself?

[The silence that follows that question is probably pretty telling.]

...I'll figure something out.

[Because he definitely can't go down this conversation path. He'll look ahead to the stairwell down the hall.]

[ SASUKE..........

Minato doesn't move right away, because he doesn't feel this is where the conversation should be left hanging, so he just offers a mumbly ]

Yeah. I have faith you'll figure it out. And it's not like you have to report it to anybody or anything, least of all to me... It's enough that you address it for your own sake, not somebody else's.

[ before looking to the stairs, head craning up to see what the floor above is like as he climbs the steps. If there's any memory he's going to get from this school, it's going to be the fact that he hates stairs. ]

Mm. I have a lot to think about.

[Such as how his Persona and the actual snake spirit aren't one and the same, and the chances of her appearing in this world for real. If she came to this world as well, he could just lock himself away, and no one would be the wiser.

So A+ solutions, clearly.

Anyway, up the stairs they go!]
